Indian Camp Creek Park

When I'm looking for trails to run or a short road run, one of my favorite places in the Westplex area is Indian Camp Creek Park. The park has a little bit of everything for a runner and is great for short to mid range runs.

The park is just a few minutes north of Wentzville on Highway 61.  If you are going north on 61, make a left turn on Dietrich Rd and you can't miss the park about half a mile in.  The park is very family friendly and is open to hiking, biking, and horses.

Short road run
If I'm looking for a short 3-5 mile road run, I will often just park in the first parking lot and start running.  The road is about a half mile 2 lane road and then becomes a one way loop.  The two lanes has plenty of space for you to run on the road or along the shoulder or one of the sidewalks.  The one-way is also wide enough for you and a car yet small enough that cars don't typically go speeding around the loop.  It is fairly flat but there is one significant hill in the loop.

Trails
The trails are what sets the park apart from others.  It is a well maintained easy to follow trail shared by hikers, bikers, and horses.  I like to run the cannon loop (5.7 miles) and there are a lot of spin-offs to add some extra mileage.  There are also quite a few creeks to cross.  Normally these creeks are dry but if it has been raining, get ready for some mud and flowing creeks.

Hybrid
Most of my runs are a hybrid between the trails and road.  I will often take to the road instead of the open/muddy parts of the trail and jump back onto the trails when it goes into the woods.  Since you are never too far from the road, it is easy to bounce back and forth depdning upon how you feel and the conditions of the trail.
